What to send for a drawing-to-3D project.

A useful brief makes the estimate and the first review clearer. Work through these six decisions before production.

Download the brief checklist ↗

1. Define the model’s purpose.

Describe the meeting or task the model needs to support. A customer presentation, an assembly discussion and fabrication work have different requirements. Agree on the permitted use and who retains design responsibility.

2. Identify authoritative source files.

List drawing numbers and revisions, available PDF or DWG files, existing STEP models and units. Mark superseded files. A measured sketch can start a discussion, but incomplete dimensions remain questions for the client.

3. Choose the assembly boundary.

Name the equipment, included parts and required level of detail. Decide whether internals, fasteners, surrounding structures and installation context are included. A component list helps prevent a different interpretation of scope.

4. Choose deliverables by use.

STEP can support a CAD handoff; GLB can support a browser viewer; STL may support an agreed mesh use. Renders, cutaways and exploded sequences add communication options. File format alone does not establish dimensional suitability.

5. Assign review and open questions.

Name the person who checks the model against the approved documents. Agree on how missing dimensions, contradictory views and technical terminology will be recorded and resolved. Professional approval stays with the responsible qualified professionals.

6. Prepare an estimate-ready brief.

Bring the source list, assembly boundary, output formats, intended use and deadline. Agree on secure transfer before sending drawings. Model complexity, source quality, detail, film outputs and revisions determine the estimate.

Copy this into your project brief.

  • Business, audience and person reviewing the work.
  • Task, current process and intended result.
  • Available inputs and permission to use them.
  • Required formats, language versions and deadline.
  • Review stages, acceptance criteria and budget constraints.

Turn the brief into a conversation.

Your model or drawing formats, source revision, units, critical dimensions, explanation goal, desired runtime and deadline. Describe the files first; arrange secure transfer before sharing them. Your first 30-minute conversation with Andrés is free. We confirm fit before preparing a paid project scope.
